Power consumption cools 5% in August amid falling mercury

India’s power consumption dropped by 4.7 per cent to 144.21 billion units in August compared to the previous year, due to above-normal rainfall across the country. This reduced the use of cooling appliances like air conditioners. Peak power demand also contracted from 236.29 GW to 216.68 GW. Experts expect steady power consumption ahead with the onset of the festival season.
